Rolfing

(i) What is the Rolf Method of Structural  Integration?

Otherwise known as ‘Rolfing’, the Rolf Method of Structural Integration is a particular type of deep tissue manipulation that aims to work with the fascia (or connective tissue) in the body. The aim of the Rolf Method is to correct and restore long term physical and psychic imbalances in the body that have resulted from poor posture, trauma or injury.

The Rolf Method is a manual therapy where the intention is to work with the fascia to create the best alignment possible for the body. It is a whole body method of treatment and recognises the interconnectedness of all the parts of the body. The Rolf Method of Structural Integration therefore applies a ‘ten series’, which systematically works with the entire structure of the body.

(ii) What are the benefits of the Rolf Method of Structural Integration?

First and foremost, by undertaking a ‘ten series’ of the Rolf Method of Structural Integration, clients will see dramatic results in their posture, often caused by poor habits in the workplace. By releasing trapped muscles and joints and getting the body into better alignment, this will release any stored tension, often having a strong psychological effect upon one’s well being too.

Some conditions that a Rolfer can help with, include lower back pain, neck pain, sciatica, shoulder problems, RSI, TMJ, chronic headaches and migraines, hip pain, and general tension release, especially as a result of trauma.

For City workers, being able to correct their posture resulting from poor ergonomic workplace habits can have positive effects upon one’s own physical and mental wellbeing.
