What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda translates as ‘The Knowledge of Life’. ‘Ayur’ meaning life and ‘Veda’ meaning knowledge. Ayurveda is a comprehensive methodology of holistic healing originating in India over 5,000 years ago. It focuses on harmony within the body, mind and consciousness, to understand and rectify any imbalances which may exist and to facilitate the restoration of the wellbeing of the individual. The concept of ‘pakruti’, from Sanskrit ‘nature’ is our unique constitution that manifests itself as vata, pitta and kapha. These ‘doshas’ are a combination of the five elements which are responsible for who we are, how we think and how we live our lives.

The fine balancing of the ‘doshas’ ultimately creates for a healthy state of existence, but if imbalances do occur, they will contribute to a state of ill health . A consultation will take a 360 degree look at your life in relationship to your unique being . The consultant formulates a unique program to restore balance and harmony through dietary change, herbal introduction, massage therapies, detoxification programs, holistic counselling, yoga and meditation.

“Ayurveda is an intuitive everyday language to help navigate our world and our bodies. It is much more romantic than acros and micros, but in many ways no  less effective”.
