What is Sound Healing?

Sound healing, or sound therapy, sound medicine, is an experience like no other! Put it simply, it involves gentle and deep relaxation to the sounds of special musical instruments such as Tibetan singing bowls, drums, rain sticks, gongs amongst a host of others played by a qualified sound therapist in a room. In a typical sound healing, participants normally lie down on yoga mats with blankets and/or pillows and simply listen to music played by the sound therapist. The effect of the vibration of the music as it ripples through the body is deeply calming and relaxing. The mind becomes in tune with the vibration resulting in a cosmic experience of pure peace and harmony.

Sound healing is fantastic for sleep. Deep sleep is often experienced afterwards, with the effects sometimes lasting for days. Stress and anxiety can be effectively dissolved away following a sound healing session, as the pleasant and deeply relaxing sounds resonate throughout the body. Science is also waking up to the therapeutic effects of sound healing, with some research pointing to the effects upon the treatment for cancer, depression and tinnitus.

What are the benefits of Sound Healing?

What are the benefits of Sound Healing?

The benefits of sound healing are many. Firstly, the body is made up of approximately 70% of water. When we observe the effect of sound in a Tibetan singing bowl filled with water, we can see that the molecules in the water start bubbling. So goes the theory that all matter in the universe is vibrating at a certain frequency. Where there is sickness, or disease, matter is vibrating at a lower frequency. It is dark and dense. By affecting this frequency through sound healing, we are able to encourage the body to start healing from within again in order to promote vitality, mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing.
